Just saw LHL speaking for Bargain Hen over mother tongue fiasco.

Looks like he is more concerned about the coming election than the country's well-being. Economy don't care, FT don't care, almost every event he cannot be cocerned, but mother tongue, speak with Bargain Hen on CNA.

A distraction?

Anyway he still speaks like having balls in his mouth.

THE teaching of mother tongue languages remains a vital feature of Singapore's education system, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said yesterday.

He issued a brief statement in the wake of strong reactions to Education Minister Ng Eng Hen's recent comments that the weighting given to mother tongue languages in the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) may be cut.

Mr Lee said: 'I know many Singaporeans, including pupils, parents and teachers, are concerned about the Government's plans for the teaching of mother tongues in schools, and especially at PSLE.

It was reported prior to this Istana Press Conference by PM Lee & Ed Minister Ng Eng Hen, there was another Istana meeting with MOE experts, MT Language teachers chaired by none other than PM Lee, MM Lee & side-kick Ng Eng Hen. Ex-933 DJ & now Mass Comm lecturer Yang Jun Wei was among those sought for feedback.

knn, Old Man still cannot resist having his say in this MT issue despite his self-confessed many mistakes in the past ....:oIo:

hi there

1. sheep cannot accept criticism.
2. sheep is deaf to criticism.
3. sheep do not learn from mistakes.
4. sheep ignore mistakes.
5. after all, sheep are still sheep.

The teaching of mother tongue in education system is oxymoron. If it's mother tongue, it needn't be taught through schools. It's learned from mother and family. The agenda is political, not educational. To keep distinct percentages of groups under Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. How many Chinese really has Mandarin as mother tongue? How many Indians really have Tamil as mother tongue?
