PM Lee attends 16th ASEAN Summit in Hanoi

SINGAPORE: Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong leaves for Hanoi, Vietnam, on Thursday to attend the 16th ASEAN Summit and its related meetings.
Vietnam is the current Chair of ASEAN, having taken over from Thailand.
A statement from the Prime Minister's Office says ASEAN leaders will consider progress in the 10-member grouping's economic integration agenda.
They will also discuss ASEAN's role in the regional political and security architecture, and hear an update on the ASEAN Connectivity Initiative.
Leaders are also expected to issue a statement on Sustainability of Regional Economic Recovery and the ASEAN Statement on Joint Response to Climate Change.
Mr Lee will be accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo, Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang, and Community Development, Youth and Sports Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.
The ministers will also attend meetings to be held just prior to the summit.
Mr Yeo will be at the ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting, while Mr Lim will attend the ASEAN Economic Council Meeting.
Dr Balakrishnan will be present at the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Council Meeting. - CNA/de
