Record-smashing turnout

AS THE cool morning breeze blew across Woodlands Stadium on Sunday, almost 3,000 people swayed to a slow and steady rhythm.

Dressed in red and white, participants looked like they were rehearsing for a mass display in the upcoming National Day parade.

But the large gathering, which included Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, labour chief Lim Swee Say and several MPs, were there for another reason.

They were aiming for a place in the Singapore Book of Records as the largest mass qigong display.

And they did it with ease - smashing the previous record set by Ayer Rajah-West Coast constituency Sports Club last September.

Then, 765 people performed qigong together. On Sunday, there was more than triple the number of people - exactly 2,698.

I am curious. When GCT was OM , old man had so many things to say about GCT. From wooden to swaying about making decisions. His son has been PM for some years now and not a whimper and old man is arguably running the country and certainly more active during GCT's 14 years in politics.

The son as everyone knows has a time delayed fuse when dealing with matters of national concern. Only appearing or commenting after the dust has settled, the horses stabled for the night, blankets pulled over little kids, the bin taken out, the food tucked away and the door shut. By then moon would have circled the earth a few times, the season would have passed, the grass turned into hay, the millet pounded, meat stewed, the grease pan scoured and the toast buttered.

In the meantime, his daughter is teaching Singaporeans Values 101 as she see it in her own glass bubble.
