Singapore congratulates new Thai PM
SINGAPORE, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong Wednesday offered congratulations to Abhisit Vejjajiva on his election as the 27th Prime Minister of Thailand.
Lee said in a congratulatory letter that Singapore and Thailand enjoy a longstanding and substantive relationship which spans many areas of cooperation and people-to-people ties are strong.
The two countries share a common interest on many regional and international issues, particularly their commitment to a more integrated ASEAN, he said.
"I look forward to working with you to strengthen our bilateral relations, as well as to advance regional cooperation during Thailand's Chairmanship of ASEAN. There is much that we need to discuss at the ASEAN Summit, particularly given the financial crisis that has affected the world." Lee said.
Lee also invited Abhisit to make a visit to Singapore at mutual convenient time.
