LABOUR chief Lim Swee Say last night criticised the Workers' Party's (WP) call to voters to help the opposition grow and become a viable alternative to the People's Action Party (PAP).
In a televised political dialogue last night, Mr Lim, a member of the PAP's central executive committee, said: 'What Singapore really needs to safeguard our future is not to wait for the PAP to fail one day, and then wait for the WP or the opposition to take over.
'What we need is to elect the best people into Parliament as soon as possible.
'With the best people in Parliament, we can have the best MPs, the best Cabinet, and the most effective government to develop Singapore better.'
In a similar vein, Senior Parliamentary Secretary Sam Tan noted that the next election is about the transition to Singapore's fourth generation leadership.
Mr Tan, an MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, urged Singaporeans to support the party that can secure '50 years of progress and prosperity for Singapore' for themselves and the future generation.
Both made their points as representatives of the PAP during an hour-long TV forum shown last night on Channel 8.
They were responding to a comment by WP youth wing president Koh Choong Yong, 37.
