Pipe burst at Elias Mall cuts water supply; tenants make do without water
Posted: 10 April 2010 2316 hrs
SINGAPORE: The water supply at Elias Mall in Pasir Ris has been cut for more than a day. According to the building management Guthrie FMC, this is due to a loss of water pressure likely caused by a burst in an underground water pipe.
The building management said it has been working round the clock digging at more than four locations.
But it has yet to locate the leak.
For now, business is as usual for the 60 shops in the building but many of them have been getting their water from an adjacent block.
Speaking in Mandarin, Chan Chio Cheng, a chicken rice stallholder, said: "We can't wash the dishes and we have to get water from another source."
Eddy Foo, a hairdresser, said: "Actually we should have more customers today, but now that this has happened, we've lost about 30 per cent of our business today."
The building is about 15 years old and the building management said inspections are not usually carried out for these pipes as they are underground. - CNA/vm
