SINGAPORE — In what is the fourth reported incident involving an e-scooter in a week, a 65-year-old woman suffered multiple injuries after a collision at her HDB block on Tuesday (April 17).
The victim, who only wants to be known as Mdm Lee, was on her way to pick up her granddaughter when she was hit by an e-scooter at the lift lobby of Block 538 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5.
Mdm Lee fell to the ground with the rider after the collision, and sustained multiple injuries on her hip, leg, arms, shoulders and nose.
The rider fled the scene after the incident, after attempts by Mdm Lee to hold on to him proved futile.
Mdm Lee’s husband, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, tried to chase after the rider but was unsuccessful.
Five Institute of Technical Education (ITE) students, who were in the vicinity, attended to Mdm Lee and helped her dress her wounds.
The police told TODAY they are aware of the incident and are looking into the matter.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday night, Mdm Lee’s daughter, Ms Sharon Sim, is appealing for eye witnesses.
“The accident took place too fast and everyone was shocked that the rider ran away,” wrote Ms Sim. “We have to catch irresponsible people!”
Speaking to TODAY on Wednesday, Ms Sim said her mother went for a “thorough check” at a polyclinic on Wednesday.
“There is a huge bruise on her chest area and the bruise on her left hip has worsened,” said the 35-year-old communications director. “There’s also a bruise on her left shoulder.”
This is the fourth reported e-scooter-related incident in a week.
On Monday, an 86-year-old e-scooter rider was taken to the hospital after an accident with a bus in Yishun.
Last Thursday, a 24-year-old e-scooter rider was arrested after he allegedly knocked down an 11-year-old girl in Pasir Ris.
The girl lost two teeth from the accident, and doctors had to realign her jaw and gums.
On top of cuts and abrasions to her head and under her right eye, she also sustained injuries on her left palm, elbows and knees.
On the same day, a six-year-old boy was injured after an e-scooter rider crashed into him near Punggol Park.
