STOMPer Ester suspects that this foreigner was cheating passers-by of their money at CityLink Mall, by pretending to collect donations for a children's home in the Philippines.
According to the STOMPer, the man tried to avoid her when he realised that she was taking pictures of him with her handphone.
Ester says:
"This foreign man was seen seeking donations at CityLink Mall.
"He was asking the man on the left to donate money and after this kind guy had given money to this foreigner, he was invited to write his name on the so called pledge card.
"He kept avoiding me when he noticed that I was holding a camera phone, and he disappeared into the crowds soon after this picture was taken.
"He was seeking donations for a so called Philippines children's home. I know that because I was approched by a girl who was using the same card that he was carrying a few weeks back.
"The girl could not answer my question on whether she had a permit to seek donations and walked away after I prompted her for more details.
"Why must he spend money to buy an air ticket to come all the way to Singapore to seek donations? Isn't it cheaper to just donate the air ticket and hotel fees to the charity?
"Is he spending the donated money on hotel and air ticket fees if he is really from the children's home?
"Why can't he seek donations from the country that the charity is based in? Could he be here to seek more money for his own use?
"I believe that people should not be using charities to cheat people, as more people get cheated and they start to avoid all charities in the future.
"The legitimate charities will have a hard time raising the money that they need to help the poor and needy."
