SINGAPORE : Philip Jeyaretnam has been appointed a member of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
He is the son of late opposition leader JB Jeyaretnam.
Mr Jeyaretnam was sworn in by President SR Nathan on Tuesday in a ceremony held at the Istana.
A Cambridge University law graduate, the 45-year-old is a Senior Counsel and a partner in law practice Rodyk and Davidson.
He will serve a term of five years on the commission, which offers civil service scholarships.
In a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, PSC Chairman Eddie Teo said that he had been told that Mr Jeyaretnam is an "astute observer of people."
He said "his appointment will add to the diversity of opinions in the PSC".
Mr Jeyaretnam said he hoped his broad interests can "help in spotting well-rounded students with strong leadership potential." - CNA /ls
