A 13-year-old boy posed as a grieving dog owner and pleaded with pet lovers to let him adopt their dogs.
He then sold them online for pocket money.
A report said that he had sold various pedigree dogs including Jack Russells, Yorkshire terriers, Chihuahuas and Maltese terriers for between $250 and $400 each.
He was caught after two dog owners made police reports.
A police spokesman said the boy was given a conditional warning after investigating the case.
This warning requires offenders to stay crime-free for a specific period, usually 12 months. If they commit another crime, they can be charged for the offences.
The 13-year-old teen, who cannot be named as he is a minor, had earlier caused an online furore after a dog owner who responded to his plea to adopt her dog went to the police when she suspected the teen of wrongdoing.
The boy claimed that her dog, a Maltese, ran away one day after she gave it to him, when she asked about the pet.
