Personal computer use distracted Northwest pilots
Malaysia Sun
Tuesday 27th October, 2009

Two Northwest Airlines pilots were using their laptop computers when the plane they were controlling overshot its destination last week.

The US federal agency investigating the incident has released information to say the pilots had admitted losing track of time as they accessed their personal computers.

The use of personal computers in the cockpit is against Northwest Airlines company policy.

The pilots admitted that they had neither monitored calls from air traffic controllers, nor noticed messages sent by company dispatchers.

The pilots were queried on their actions during the incident in which their aircraft, traveling from San Diego to Minneapolis, went off course for 150 miles.

Both pilots denied speculation that they had fallen asleep during the flight.

Because the pilots were out of communication with air traffic controllers for more than an hour, fears were raised that their plane had been hijacked.

The pilots have been suspended.

I dont believe this excuse. Whitewashing i tell you.

They were engaged in improper (carnal) activity and lost track of everything .... that is more believable.

Can bet you that SQ pilots will be doing the same, surfing Internet while flying. Idiots paying SIA extra $ thinking that they are any safer? They are NEVER!
