When in the US, don't get sick or use the hospital. Heard this from a relative whose wife gave birth a few years ago. Due to complication, his wife had to spent 2 nights at the hospital. He had to fork out some $20k from his own pocket
When you have insurance or adequate preparation for this.. it will not be an issue. In SG, the medical is also not cheap... my 1st born child spent about $14k in ICU and hospitalisation.
