</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>The wholesale electricity market operator said that after surpassing a record $6 billion last year, the value of electricity traded so far this year 'pales in comparison'.
Between January and September, total electricity traded amounted to just over $4 billion, the latest EMC figures show. This reflected the economic slowdown and lower oil prices.
In the first nine months, electricity demand and the Uniform Singapore Electricity Price (USEP) averaged 4,564 MW and $143/MWh respectively, compared to 4,639 MW and $178/MWh in the same period last year.
The USEP, plus regulation and administrative charges and other components, make up the wholesale electricity price, which is the net purchase price paid by wholesalers.
Apart from the big generating companies such as Senoko Power, PowerSeraya and Tuas Power, as well as smaller players such as SembCorp Cogen and Keppel Merlimau Cogen, Singapore's electricity market is also supplied by incineration plants.
EMC said that two new players - Senoko Waste-to-Energy and Keppel Seghers Tuas Waste to Energy - have joined the wholesale electricity market.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>In September, the former took over a 55 MW incineration plant at Senoko formerly owned by the National Environment Agency. Keppel Seghers' 24 MW plant joined the market last month.
The 16 MW incineration generation unit at Ulu Pandan was deregistered from the electricity market last month.
As a result of these moves, incineration plants have the capacity to provide 2.63 per cent of Singapore's total electricity supply.

And your are rejoicing - for the wrong reasons. Are you doing Singapore in?

All should be rejoicing that we have managed to conserve electricity by reducing demand and yet be productive without sacrificing the comfort of life or our GDP.

Didn't you read that the Singapore economy has rebound - modestly in the third quarters?
