<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I THANK Ms Christina Lim for her letter on Monday, 'Painting the ceiling directly above the faces of helpless patients'.
Our wards are nearly 10 years old and thus need re-painting. Prior to starting the exercise, we had briefed our contract painters on the importance of our patients' safety and also chose to use odourless paint to reduce any inconvenience to our patients.
Our usual process is to relocate patients to another room when there is painting.
Unfortunately, in the enthusiasm to get the job done and given our high ward occupancy, there was a slip in this process. This is clearly unacceptable, so we've counselled our staff and contractors as well as reviewed the schedule, training and procedures to ensure this does not happen again.
I thus appreciate Ms Lim's feedback and thank the public for their patience during our maintenance programme. Dr Eugene Soh
