Passenger assaults flight attendant when asked to sit
AsiaOne | Wed, Oct 17 2012
SINGAPORE - A male passenger on board a Jetstar flight had apparently twisted an air stewardess' arm until visibly red when he was asked to sit down.
Another passenger who was on the same flight that was en route from Phuket to Singapore on Oct 13 wrote in to Stomp about the incident.
The contributor, Yingjun, cited that the Chinese man was travelling with his wife and daughter on board the Jetstar 3K538 flight.
Jetstar told AsiaOne that it was aware of the alleged incident, but it will not pursue the matter.
"The alleged minor assault of a member of Jetstar Asia’s cabin crew by a passenger (occurred) whilst the cabin crew member was assisting with preparation for disembarkation at Singapore," the budget carrier said in an email response.
Seated just two rows behind the family, Yingjun could hear the commotion and see quite clearly what had happened.
He said that the woman wanted to bring her daughter to the toilet during descent when the seat belt signs were on.
He also claimed that the woman let her daughter urinate on the floor instead of the toilet bowl.
"The mother took the little girl to the toilet while the plane was descending (seatbelt signs were on) and let the little girl go to the bathroom on the floor (toilet was not in use!), regardless of the flight attendant's pleas," he wrote in an email to the citizen journalism website.

When the flight attendant told them to sit down, the man got upset and stood up.
"The father then got up and when asked to please sit as the plane was descending, he actually grabbed the flight attendant's arm and twisted it until it turned bright red and the flight attendant went down in pain," Yingjun said.
"The entire family left the plane laughing upon landing as if they did nothing wrong," he added.
While the low-cost airline is not pursuing the matter, it reminded all customers that safety is Jetstar’s number one priority.
"We consider any assault or harassment of cabin crew to be unacceptable. All passengers are required to follow instructions of the cabin crew at all times," it said.
Being a PR from China, Yingjun said in the citizen journalism report that he felt ashamed by the behaviour of the family.
3K538 touched down at Changi Airport Terminal 2 at 12.50am.
