Patna Youth in Singapore Found Dead under Suspicious Conditions
Amidst the cry and wails of the family members and other loved ones, the dead body of 24-yer old Shwetang who died under mysterious conditions in Singapore, arrived in Patna on Tuesday.
As told by the family members, Shwetang, a computer engineer, was working at the UBS financial firm in Singapore since June 2007. On Sunday, he went to the Singapore River with some of his friends. While others in the group returned to their homes, there was no trace of Shwetang.
Later , a police search fished out his body from the river.
While the Singapore police described Shwetang's death as accidental, victim's father Jitendra Nath said he suspected foul play in his son's death and demanded a high-level enquiry by the Singapore government.
"My son had no interest in water sports. It seems highly unlikely that he would go to a river and step into water when he did not even know how to swim," said Nath adding his attempt to get an explanation from the Singapore government and Shwetang's employer yielded no result.
The body was identified by Shwetang's friend Samir who, in turn, relayed the bad news to the victim's younger brother Prateek living in Hyderabad.
Shwetang was later cremated at Patna's Gulbi Ghat.
The family members are expected to meet with Bihar Governor R. L. Bhatia and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to demand a high-level probe in the incident.
