ANALYSIS FROM TEMASEK REVIEW, by YOUR CORRESPONDENCE 5th May 2011
The PAP’s campaign for the 2011 election is a catastrophe right from the very beginning, plagued by incoherent messages to the voters, contradicting statements made by leaders and an outright dissociation from the reality on the ground amidst fast rising public disgruntlement at opprobrium.
ANALYSIS: The key question is, why this is happening?
For the last one week, the PAP’s disjointed campaign was dominated by two former prime ministers instead of the incumbent. PAP ‘walkover’ MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC Lee Kuan Yew used his trade-mark ‘knuckle-duster’ style to intimidate Singaporeans from voting for the opposition, in particular residents of Aljunied GRC who were told to ‘repent for five years’ if they voted for WP. Then Goh Chok Tong, who had earlier promised not to comment on candidates from other constituencies shot his own foot by making disparaging remarks about his former subordinate and now SDP candidate for Holland-Bukit Timah Tan Jee Say.
ANALYSIS: What we are looking at is a non-coordinated modus operandi. Apparently, every PAP Nominee for themselves? Why are they not singing the same song? The Father, The Son, and the Holy GOH, all moving in different directions, are they not in the same Party? Why are the modus operandi not communicated? Perhaps they expect a walk over during nomination day? they got cocky, and didn't prepare for such massive competition from Opposition? What I can clearly observe is that they are NOT PREPARED FOR A FIERCE FIGHT.
The PAP has adopted the same modus operandi it employed so successfully in previous elections by harping constantly on its ‘track record’, handing out goodies like ‘Grow and Share’ package to woo voters and using the state media to smear and fix the opposition.
ANALYSIS: TRACK RECORDS, WORKERS' PARTY & SPP & SDP & NSP & RP HAVE TRACK RECORDS. The Grow and Share goodies are given in May 1st, why not given by April 1st or before Nomination Day? So that the Citizens can sponsor Nominees for Elections? Using State Media for PAP own propaganda efforts is really unfair advantage. If you watch Channel News Asia, it is taking the side of PAP. Bribes will not work this time.
It appeared to have panicked when it realized that the same old tactics aren’t working on Singaporeans anymore, especially the young who are widely read and have no affiliations to the PAP.
ANALYSIS: WELCOME TO THE INTERNET AGE, FREE FLOW OF REAL TIME INFORMATION. Unbiased, uncensored, straight from the hearts of people, voiced out from Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and all other alternative informations.
The oft-repeated message of ‘good governance, political stability and economic growth’ now sounds like a stale old record repeating itself to a wall especially when life is indeed getting tougher for ordinary Singaporeans facing increasing competition from the relentless influx of foreigners.
ANALYSIS: Based on TIME MAGAZINE, "The World's Most Influential People" May 2, 2011 PAGE 21, Business Section, A TALE OF 600 Cities, where most of the world's growth will come from, SINGAPORE IS NOT EVEN RANKED TOP 25 CITIES, by the way, HONG KONG is RANKED 25. Shenzhen is 11, Shanghai 3, Beijing 5. If Singapore is suppose to be WORLD CLASS, then isn't Singapore deserving of the top 25 position? But it's no where seen. Influx of foreigners is to dilute the population base, to swing votes to PAP favor. Ask yourself, can Singapore still go up to 6.5 Million people? And do they have to engage ANG MO to consult the Government to do this job? So are all the Ministers Sleeping? They don't know how BIG is Singapore, or they do not know how many Zeros are there in SGD 60 Billion?
The hundreds of dollars handed out to Singaporeans are too little to help them cope with the rampant inflation while the usual smear tactics which have worked so well in the past now backfired one by one in the age of Facebook and Youtube.
ANALYSIS: SINGAPOREANS are not DAFT, not LESSER MORTALS, not Horses. Singaporeans have an intelligent mind. In fact, Singaporeans are well versed in Mathematics (LOGIC) and Languages (Artistic) Every Singaporean knows that it is not enough to depend on state media for information. Welcome to the age of Internet.
Like an over-confident student who did not bother to study hard for his exams only to realize in the last minute that the format of the papers have changed and doing last-minute revision now, the PAP is changing gear with only three days to go to salvage a disastrous campaign so far.
ANALYSIS: Yes, why is this happening? Let me point out a key ingredient in PAP modus operandi... Madam Kwa Geok Choo... the Mother Mary (Sorry for the pun, hope there is no offense taken) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwa_Geok_Choo
The TRUE BRAINS behind PAP is Madam Kwa Geok Choo. She is wise, composed, and charismatic. She is the glue behind The Father, The Son, and The Holy Goh. For without Madam Kwa, there are no directions. Madam Kwa is the true key component to the entire PAP. Sadly, when she have departed last year, The Father, The Son, The Holy Goh move in different directions in their Election Campaign. This can only happen as they have lost their BRAINS.
The format of this election has indeed changed, revolutionized by the new media which the PAP has failed to incorporate into it campaign.
ANALYSIS: The PAP is too comfortable with their well paid salaries, and have not observed the trends of Facebook, Twitter, and other alternative communications. They could have observed the trend from TIME MAGAZINE about the North Africa & Middle East Revolutions, all through Facebook and Twitter, yet, none of the PAP heavy weight Nominees want to reach out to the people that way. We have to ask ourselves, do we need a Government that is totally out of touch with reality, and how people communicate today?
All of sudden, Lee Kuan Yew who had dominated the headlines for the last few days has all but disappeared from public view altogether with Goh Chok Tong whose infamous last words were – “The majority of Singaporeans are not concerned by the high ministerial pay.”
ANALYSIS: Our beloved Harry Lee Kuan Yew, MP for Tanjong Pagar loves attention. It's okay, he deserves the attention. However, it's really time for him to rest... He is approaching 90s. Please enjoy your fruits of Labor. Personally, I agree that Harry Lee is the only one to get SGD 3.8 Million with 8 months bonus per year, and he can be President of Singapore if he want to. But for the rest of Ministers, TRY HARDER! And to Mr. Goh Chok Tong, you are already approaching 70s, why should you work so hard? Isn't the legal retirement age in Singapore is 65? (Remember, the Citizens didn't revolt like the French when it was raised from 62 to 65) So, isn't it time for you to retire, and forgo your SGD 3.8 Million with 8 months bonus? Haven't you got enough of the dough for yourself and your lovely family? Do you know how many Zeros are there in a million?
Like an abusive husband saying sorry to a battered wife and promising to change, PM Lee went through a face-life in a day: he apologized to Singaporeans for the mistakes his government have made despite the many opportunities they were given in the last five years, tried to embrace the online community by holding a ‘Live’ webchat through Facebook when he should have done so earlier and pretending to be humble, empathetic and caring when all along he had been lecturing Singaporeans and asking them to take the ‘bitter pills.’
ANALYSIS:
Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, you are not a PM during May 5th, why do you have this title? I thought Parliament is already dissolved since Nomination Day on 27th April? There is no walk over in AMK GRC isn't it? Or are Singaporeans truly daft not to read the elections procedures?
PAP leaders suddenly remember to engage Singaporeans instead of talking down to them. George Yeo made a desperate appeal on a Facebook video to young Singaporeans to support the PAP, promising to “change and improve” when he said in 1995 that ordinary Singaporeans have no right to discuss about policies with the government.
ANALYSIS: TRY DESPERATELY THEY MIGHT... Mr. George Yeo, we know you are a Genius in PAP, however, please do not condescend Singaporeans. We the Citizens of Singapore, the Electorates of the Republic of Singapore have the God Given Rights, the give Mandate to whoever we deem fit into Parliament, to speak for the people, to serve the people, and to better the people, and to build Singapore into a mighty nation that it should be. Do not ever, insult our intelligence. We will vote for opposition in Aljunied GRC, and we will MANDATE Workers' Party as a strong signal that PAP is too much.
Khaw Boon Wan cried to win sympathy votes during a rally while conveniently forgetting his callous call for Singaporeans to send their parents to retire in Johor Bahru in 2007. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan now promises to “care for” and “look after” Singaporeans when he deliberated for months before raising the monthly allowance of Public Assistance recipients.
ANALYSIS: Mr. Khaw Boon Wan, when you ask Singaporeans to send their parents to JB Hospices back in 2007, you have already lost respect from the people, and everyone will not vote for you! Even with tears, you cannot take back the hurt from us. Mr. Vivian (as I don't think you deserve Dr.), have you ever cared for the welfare of Singaporeans? You only know how to over spend to SGD 300 Million!!! Do you know how many ZEROS are there??? And is Youth Olympics worth that much??? How about the welfare of the Citizens.
Unfortunately, these feeble last-ditch attempts aren’t going to convince many Singaporeans who have already made up their minds to teach the PAP a lesson it will never forget on 7 May.
ANALYSIS: RIGHT ON. Fellow Citizens, Fellow Singaporeans, Ladies and Gentlemen, let the MESSAGE BE SENT TO PAP, DO NOT CONDESCEND Singaporeans, DO NOT TREAT US AS DAFT, DO NOT SELF SERVE YOURSELF, WE WILL BE UNITED, and WE WILL VOTE FOR OPPOSITION!
Despite controlling the mainstream media, the PAP has clearly lost out to a highly motivated, tightly-knitted and nimble opposition which has clearly played its cards right this time with strong support from the new media.
ANALYSIS: THE REASON why Opposition have so much points to debate on is because they have prepared their case well, they have listened to the people, they even go to Sammyboy.com to gather views. This is the humility of the Opposition Party. VICTORY LOVES PREPARATION. (a quote from "THE MECHANIC" - sorry, i can't help myself...)
In fact, the state media may turn out to be the PAP’s undoing as its blatant one-sided propaganda has lulled PAP leaders into a state of complacency for a long time.
ANALYSIS: Hey, Singaporeans are not daft okay? Internet rocks.
Like domesticated dogs which have grown too fat and lazy to guard the house, the present batch of PAP leaders are so sheltered from the humps and bumps of politics that they have lost the instinct, capability and competitiveness necessary to survive in the harsh world of politics.
ANALYSIS: Hey, this is a very bad analogy, however, it kind of sound right. Don't you think?
Though the PAP will still win the coming election with an overwhelming majority, it will be a useful wake-up call for its leader to change their usual strategy to appeal to the younger generation of voters in future elections.
ANALYSIS: I am truly not sure about overwhelming majority... the facts speaks for itself.
GRAND CONCLUSION:
PAP have internal differences, and the Father, the Son, and the Holy Goh do not seems to agree on a modus operandi together. As the Brains behind PAP, Madam Kwa is no longer supporting them.
The heavy weight Nominees should be considered to be replaced by fresh blood. Because fresh blood offers fresh ideas, and they are not having any preconceived notions that Singaporeans are daft... and they are willing to serve.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the rest is up to you. I can only show you the door. Please take the red pill and see it for yourself... IGNORANCE IS NOT BLISS.
