Why are all these 15-year-old plants doomed by Town Council?
These 15-year-old plants have been ear-marked to be cut by Sembawang Town Council as they are growing ‘in violation of rules’.
According to STOMPer Gilbert, these plants have been in Marsiling Rise for at least 15 years and they provide much-need shade.
“Sembawang Town Council officials marked every plant and tree in this snapshot (plus many others) for immediate removal and destruction, as ‘they are in violation of rules’,” he wrote in an email to STOMP.
“This apparently means that they were planted without explicit TC permission.
“As they have been at Marsiling Rise for at least 15 years, providing much-needed shade, a habitat for birds and other fauna.
“They also serve to brighten our days; we don't understand the sudden rush to destroy them."
