<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->THIRTY years ago, the names of the Upper and Lower Pierce reservoirs were correctly spelt. The roads around the reservoirs were also correctly spelt as 'Pierce', that is, the 'i' comes before the 'e'. Kallang reservoir was renamed in 1922 as Pierce reservoir in commendation of the services of Robert Pierce, municipal engineer of Singapore from 1901 to 1916.
When then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew officiated the opening of Upper Pierce Reservoir on Feb 27, 1977, I am sure he officiated its opening as Upper Pierce Reservoir - not Upper Peirce Reservoir.
Over the last 10 or more years, the reservoirs have been wrongly spelt as 'Upper and Lower Peirce reservoirs', and roads surrounding the reservoirs have been wrongly spelt as 'Peirce'. Now a road in Tanglin has also been spelt as 'Peirce', and there are even schools spelt as 'Peirce'.
Can the relevant authority please correct the mistakes as soon as possible?
