<TABLE border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%"><TBODY><TR>Almost $200 jump in long-term medication for mum
</TR><!-- headline one : end --><!-- show image if available --></TBODY></TABLE>
<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->MY MOTHER has suffered from dementia for the past 12 years. As diagnosed by her geriatric doctor at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, she takes 10mg Memantine tablets every day to slow down the deterioration caused by her illness.
For the past 12 years, we have paid $400 for a three-month supply of Memantine. Since the middle of this year, due to a price increase for this imported medicine, we now pay $597 for the same medicine.
I asked a pharmacist at the hospital if there was any possibility of the Government subsidising such medication, but she advised that as it was imported, there was no subsidy.
Although I can still afford to pay for it, I will face difficulty if prices keep increasing, and I do not want to compromise the health of my mother.
