<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I read last Sunday's report on swimmer Tao Li, 'Leaving friends, family behind', and was dismayed to learn that no official from the Singapore Swimming Association was at the airport to receive her and her team on their return from Berlin after the Fina/Arena Swimming World Cup series.
This lack of support is disappointing, considering her sterling performances at the series - she won three golds, a silver and three bronzes, as well as smashed the competition record in the 100m butterfly event.
Tao Li has the makings of a true champion on the world stage, and a burning desire to succeed.
I hope the association will show more support in future by welcoming home its athletes, regardless of the results.
No doubt, everyone loves a winner. But let us not forget that there are many more battles to be fought, and instilling confidence in our sportsmen and sportswomen by giving them moral support is an ingredient for success. Bennie Cheok
