> The current government will have a budget surplus of about $80 million this year, and an estimated surplus of $5 billion over its whole term – not to mention the accumulated past reserves of a few hundreds of billions of dollars.
The PAP govt seems to be getting carried away in building reserves. It seems to think that the job of the Govt is to build reserves for the country. They forget that the primary job of a Govt in any country is to ensure the well being of its citizens first (ie, jobs, housing, transport, healthcare etc) and not build reserves. What’s the use of building such a large reserves when Singaporeans are suffering?
In fact, with a large reserves being accumulated by the PAP Govt in the last 5 years, it can only mean that the people have been over-taxed for the last 5 years. This is nothing for PAP to be proud of.
