The amount of spin emanating from our most eminent 144th media (in terms of press freedom) in the world is making me dizzy.
First in the morning is a grand gesture by The Straits Times to usher in the third generation ‘dragon prince’ Li Hongyi, son of Prime Minister Lee by giving prominence to a letter written by him in response to Dr Tan Wu Meng’s letter last Friday ‘Why Singapore’s political system works’ on the ST Forum.
Next on the spin list is CNA who rather unashamedly blared out PM Lee’s “assurance” that the government will “stand by” Singaporeans during troubling times ahead. That is hardly reassuring when Singapore workers can be retrenched easily by any company at any time and place with little repercussions just like how DBS decide to do away with 900 staff one fine day.
