Chitchat PAP George Yeo Prays For Cardinal Pell's Acquittal From Pedophilia Charges!

Former Minister for Foreign Affairs Minister, George Yeo, has drawn criticism after he threw his weight behind George Pell, in a public Facebook post on Wednesday (6 Mar).

Pell, who is widely known as Cardinal Pell, is the Catholic Church’s most senior official to be convicted of child sexual abuse. In June 2017, Pell was charged in Victoria with multiple historical sexual assault offences; he denied all charges.

Due to the charges raised against him, Pope Francis removed Pell from the Council of Cardinal Advisers on 16 August 2018. In December 2018, Pell was found guilty on five charges related to sexual misconduct involving two boys in the 1990s. His bail has been revoked and he is held in custody, with his sentencing scheduled for 13 March 2019.


Pell has lodged an appeal against his conviction on three grounds, including a claim that the jury verdict was unreasonable. Last month, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith initiated its own investigation of the charges against Pell, which could lead to Pell being defrocked.

The ex-ruling party politician has drawn criticism after he expressed support for Pell. Asserting that Pell’s “recent conviction and imprisonment filled me and many others with pain,” George Yeo wrote that he is praying “that Cardinal Pell will be acquitted in the appeal.”

Linking an article on Pell’s imprisonment, Yeo wrote: “In July 2013, I received a telephone call from Cardinal George Pell whom I did not know with an invitation to participate in an administrative reform commission called COSEA established by Pope Francis a few months after he was elected. In Feb 2014, I became a member of the Vatican Council for the Economy which meets 4-5 times a year.

“Cardinal Pell as Secretary for the Economy was always present at our meetings. I got to know him well and developed a deep respect for his sense of mission. His recent conviction and imprisonment filled me and many others with pain. Below is a piece written by Pablo Elton which I read with a heavy heart. We pray that Cardinal Pell will be acquitted in the appeal.”

That's a strange thing you picked up on.

Unfortunately, I am sorry to disappoint you, but where I am is not a habitat for orangutans despite the nightsafari nick.

But, I had three big triggering events to start writing in this forum, the 1st was my 1st post. The 2nd was, sad to say the departure of an orangutan. I can write a long essay about forums and how they live and die by the quality of their contributors. This forum has served me in many ways throughout the years and its contributors, in 1 way or another have brightened my day, even when you are flaming each other and even when I think some should be locked up in IMH. The orangutan did contribute a lot to SBF and I watched his departure and it felt an emptier place, so I resolved to make up for it, because who knows somewhere out there is a lurker just like me who's day is made better from reading this stuff.

However, I want to be the first to say that while I am trying to contribute, I am not a replacement for the jungle monkey and I for one would welcome his return if he did read this, even if we start flaming each other and we both think the other should be locked up in IMH. Life is too short for grudges. Before you know it, we all uplorry.

The final triggering event strangely enough was nothing big, but it was because of nayr69sg, I think he's the doc in Canada. This is personal, so if nayr69sg is reading this, please pm me and I will share it with you.

Last and definitely not least is scroobal if I spelled his nick correctly. It's not a triggering event, but the whole big reason I started reading SBF in the 1st place. If it weren't for you, I would not be here. I would still be alive, but I would not be this happy.
