PAP CEC gets new faces
By Li Xueying

THREE new faces will help lead the People's Action Party in the coming two years as members of its highest decision-making body.

Acting Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong, Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Community Development, Youth and Sports) Teo Ser Luck and Deputy Speaker Indranee Rajah have been co-opted into the 18-member PAP central executive committee (CEC).

Stepping down are Senior Minister of State (Home Affairs and Law) Ho Peng Kee, and veteran grassroot MPs Teo Ho Pin and Halimah Yacob.

The PAP announced the CEC line-up in a statement on Friday.

The fourth person co-opted is Education Minister Ng Eng Hen, who was in the previous CEC.

The quartet complete the new CEC's full line-up.

At the party's annual conference last month, its cadres cast secret ballots electing 12 members to the CEC.

Another two - Mrs Lim Hwee Hua and Mr Mah Bow Tan - who received the next highest number of votes were also co-opted at that time.

remember the wise old man's quote:

YOU PUT A DUMMY IN AN ORCHESTRA, THE MUSIC STILL CONTINUES TO PLAY ON:)

Dear Porifirio

Co-opted means cannot win enough votes on their own from the Cadre's hence have to be appointed. Ng Eng Hen is I believe LKY's blue eyed boy and is being groomed for bigger things :_)) and yet was not popular enough to the Cadre's in a secret ballot I believe he will be given greater prominence in any future GE :_)) and that will be interesting.

It is very clear to me that Ng Eng Hen is unpopular within the PAP.

Usually, PAP ministers have a slight advantage. Co-opted ones are often the backbenchers. In this case, even backbenchers were elected.

Remy Choo's mentor is one of thos co-opted. He shld be making his apperance in TOC pretty soon.

Dear Locke:

I heard you are Mr Low's blue-eyed boy too. Will you consider being field as a WP candidate in the next GE ?

I will surely give you my "support".

Dear Avantas

More like pain in the ass and no intention to stand and funnily enough no need for "support" from backstabbing morons like you

I gather this is the 2nd time that Ng Eng Hen had to be co-opted to the CEC. Make of that what you will. In fact the latest CEC does not provide much inspiration if one is looking for signs of innovative creative leadership from 4th generation PAPs.

Oh really? Which one?

Different faces but same attitude.
