SERIAL sex predators must be jailed for as long as possible to safeguard society, said the Court Of Appeal on Monday when it dismissed Huang Shiyou's appeal against his 32-year jail term. Appeal Judge Andrew Phang said the 23-year-old, who had assaulted nine girls between nine and 14 years old, was a menace to society and very likely to re-offend if released too early. 'The systematic and serial nature of his offences demonstrate a propensity to re-offend and the key consideration for the court is on prevention,' he added. Huang, then a full-time national serviceman had gone on a rampage from April 2007 till July last year. He made some victims perform oral sex on him and tried to rape them. In addition to the 32 years in jail, he will be caned 24 times. The sentence could hardly be considered as 'crushing' since Huang would be in his early 40s when released after remission, said Justice V.K. Rajah, adding: 'There'a school of thought that paedophiles who attack young children should be put away indefinitely.'
