More than $80 million was spent on lift upgrading at 132 blocks, which works out to about $606,000 per block. Even so, the new lifts are extremely slow. They also break down often. I have heard people complaining about the lifts; some even suspect the parts were imported from unreliable sources.
The Government can help the elderly and less mobile in other ways. It can help them move to newer flats where lifts that stop at every floor are already available. The flats can be offered at a discounted or subsidised rate, rather than put these units back on the market.
The Government can also buy back resale units in blocks that have lifts that stop at every floor, and resell them to the elderly at subsidised rates.
It would be a worthy gesture if any savings from this proposal are ploughed back into town council funds, which will eventually benefit all in the form of conservancy rebates.

Called the town council to complain and the person in charge said that he is not aware of it which is kind of amazing to me. Doesn't the lift maintenance company submit a monthly report to Town Council.
Spoke to the technician who was repairing the lift once, he said it's maintenance not broke down. Why on earth does he do it during peak hour and why the need for maintenance if the lift is working. It's just an excuse, the lift is actually broken but he lied abt it.
It's such a headache with the new lift, we are better off with the old lift that hardly breaks down. I hope the relevant authority can look into the matter. Get a report from the maintenance company to see how often it breaks down. Either the technician is not doing his job or the lift needs to be replaced.
