Almost 71% of workers in Taiwan take work home with them, while 61% work on public holidays, according to the results of a survey released Friday.
The survey also found that 73% of the respondents said working on holidays would not affect their work-life balance.
The survey, titled 2013 VMware New Lifestyles and published by VMware, a major player in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, shows that mobile and flexible work models have become the norm in Taiwan.
Barry Chen, president of VMware Taiwan, said that people bringing their own devices to work could explain the trend, as 90% of respondents said that they work off their own mobile devices after leaving the office.
Meanwhile, 84% of the respondents said they have two or more mobile devices and 90% said they use their own mobile devices in the workplace.
While some workers did not reveal the reasons why they bring their own devices to work, 73% of the respondents said they work more efficiently outside the workplace and can better resolve business problems that way.
Chen said the survey reveals that due to consumer experience in combining the use of cloud computing, mobile devices and other applications, they have developed into mobile workers who can work with more flexibility and efficiency.
Enterprises should take note of this trend and ensure that their business information security measures and other policies are able to respond to the change.
