Open Letter To The Backside Admiral
Many Singaporeans were appalled years back when you were touted as a candidate for the MIWs as you professed to “never have seen porn”. As a regular internet user, one is highly (99.9%) unlikely to escape porn being delivered to one’s doorsteps via spam mail.
That leads us to 2 things. Either you are lying or there is a certain aspect of you that is NAÏVE. Having been schooled at Anglo-Chinese School, many have given you the benefits of the doubt that you were telling the truth due to your excellent Christian school upbringing.
Which brings us to the NAÏVE part.
Your comments in Parliament about a recent incident involving one of your comrade brings up the naivety in you. Instead of asking the question “Why are we (your Party) receiving such a deluge of negative comments”, you went ahead and delivered a speech of THREAT against Netizens whose comments could and should be viewed as invaluable feedback. But no, you went ahead and issued a blanket threat.
Perhaps, the Netizens’ language were not to your liking. Perhaps, your Grassroots have painted a different scenario of things at ground level and you are led to believe that there is only a handful of, in your opinion, “trouble makers” stirring the pot in cyberspace.
If that is the case, you might as well issue another statement in the same context of your recent Parliament speech making all negative comments in public against your Party a crime; and that include the neighbourhood coffeeshops.
Perhaps, you and your Party do not care too much about “born and bred” in Singapore Singaporeans as we are of “poor stock” and you have a large pool of foreigners just waiting to secure Singapore PR and Citizenship. Yes, we Singaporeans already know and many are feeling dejected.
We, the Citizens of Singapore, from the educated to the less educated, from the coffeeshop Ah Peks to those that have migrated, know the numerous fallible aspects of policies past and present long before the NET was used as a medium. There is no need to try to conceal and hide.
It is only with the NET that your Party is receiving excellent, honest ‘true to the heart’ comments; a truly invaluable and welcome aspect in any modern government’s arsenal and you are ‘trying to curb it’? Of course there will be that one or two deliquient comments as in any society, but aren’t you guys all scholars and smart enough to spot them? Maybe not. I almost forgot Naivety can breed.
Which would you rather see? Frank comments on the web or more incidents involving MPs, defacing of public properties, and more suicides?
My Rear-end as well as the many thousands of backsides of citizens that have ever critisize the policies of your Party will remain even ever more vigilant after your speech.
Why is there so much fear in your Party? What exactly are you guys trying to hide?

It appears that the PAP caste system is creeping into cyberspace as well judging from Rear-Admiral Lui Tuck Yew’s comments in Parliament yesterday about “unhelpful” netizens who gloated over MP Seng Han Thong’s misfortune.
When lesser mortals like us post on internet, we are castigated for not having a higher degree of “self-regulation”.
Why didn’t Lui Tuck Yew express his concerns about the lack of “self-regulation” two years ago over the now infamous posting made by PAP MP Wee Siew Kim’s daughter, Wee Shu Min on her personal blog ?
Let us recall what Shu Min wrote and her dad’s defiant defence of her in the media:
“I should think not. Dear derek is one of many wretched, undermotivated, overassuming leeches in our country, and in this world, one of those who would prefer to be unemployed and wax lyrical about how his myriad talents are being abandoned for the foreigner’s, instead of earning a decent, stable living as a sales assistant.
