Despite the publicity and PAP's grassroots' effort, only 2.2% (85,000 of 3.73 million) turned up for this "One Community Walk" held island-wide at 75 locations today. Considering the effort and resources that have gone into this PAP's event, the turnouts could be better than the usual participation from grassroots members, civil servants, GLC employees, PRs and new citizens.

Over 84,000 to join mass walk
By Andrea Ong
MORE than 84,000 people will take part in Singapore's largest synchronised mass walk on Sunday.
Called the One Community Walk, participants will be flagged off at 8 am by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, 16 ministers, 55 Members of Parliament and grassroots leaders from 75 locations across the country.
The event celebrates the 50th anniversary of the People's Association and aims to boost community bonds ahead of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
It is jointly organised by the PA and the 84 Constituency Sports Clubs (CSCs) islandwide.
Mr Patrick Teo, chairman of the Constituency Sports Club Council, said Singaporeans of all ages and backgrounds rallied together to support the country's bid for the YOG. 'In the same spirit, the CSCs wanted to find an activity that everyone could participate in,' he said.
The event took eight months to put together. More than 4,000 volunteers will be acting as road marshals. The PA hopes to set a Singapore record for the most number of sites in a mass walk event with a synchronised flag-off.
