If my recollection is right, a documentary on a Monk from Shaolin who moved to New York also got married. The reason was that Shaolin has this rule removed by order of the Communist Government to encourage them to renounce monkhood. The rule was never re-instated.

I believe many monastories in China have this rule removed due to Governmental pressure. So it is not surprising that this monk being married.
