SINGAPORE : In view of the heightened H1N1 situation, the National Environment Agency (NEA) is making it compulsory for building owners to step up cleaning of common areas.
These include shop entrances, escalator rails, lift buttons, toilets and public telephones.
Cleaners must also clear rubbish every hour.
Cleaning contractors said that these new requirements will raise bills by S$400 to S$500 a month.
At Bugis Junction, cleaners are now using antiseptic wash instead of plain water.
NEA said it will conduct regular checks on shopping malls and shops. Owners can be fined up to S$5,000 if they do not comply. - CNA
