新冠肺炎疫情未減，但面對即將到來的五一黃金周，卻已有6萬人訂機票準備前往沖繩度假。沖繩截至24日已有133確診、4人死亡；知事玉城鄧尼（玉城デニー）公開懇求，希望大家現在不要前去旅遊，「為了守住我最愛的沖繩」。
玉城鄧尼昨（26日）發文表示，面對接下來的連休，航空公司表示已有6萬多人預定要衝沖繩度假，但他直言：「不幸的是，由於宣布緊急狀態，沖繩無法提供足夠的款待。」

玉城鄧尼表示，由於離島的醫療系統於緊急狀態，希望遊客能取消這次的出遊計畫，「等到我們有能力款待客人時，再來旅遊。」他並表示現在是禁足周（stayhome week）。
日媒表示，日本厚生勞動省專家到沖繩縣進行調查，表示首都圈的海灘都關閉，很多不知要去哪裡遊山玩水的民眾可能會選擇前往沖繩。不過，沖繩縣的呼籲，大部分東京民眾似乎都不知道，也讓沖繩縣政府和衛生單位相當擔憂。
