Over a career spanning 18 years, Shahrin has accumulated extensive experience in the railway industry. He started his career in SMRT in the Maintenance Division, specialising in Environmental Control Systems and expanded his portfolio to include Facilities & Building Management in 2005. In Sep 2008 to Oct 2010, he was seconded to Dubai as Managing Director of SMRT Engineering Middle East. He returned in 2010 to helm various senior leadership roles in Rail Operations before leaving in 2012 to join Dubai Government’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). He first joined RTA as Chief Rail Planner, Rail Agency to develop the operational strategies of Dubai Metro and supported the planning of the rail networks in Dubai. He played a key role in the review of the Dubai Metro O&M Concession Agreement to strengthen the management and oversight capabilities of the Authority and enhanced the relationship with the Operator. In 2014, he was appointed as Chief Engineer, Rail Operations where he facilitated the inauguration of Dubai Tram and supported the oversight of both Metro & Tram operations and partook in several joint-committees such as Metro Operations Review Panel, Tram Operations Review Panel, Railway Safety Committee and Rail Innovation Committee. Shahrin’s last held appointment in RTA was Rail Expert & Advisor to the CEO, Rail Agency where he provided strategic advice on matters relating to railway operations, maintenance and projects. Shahrin was a member of RTA Dubai Rail O&M Management Board.

Shahrin holds a Masters of Science (Management of Technology) from National University of Singapore and a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) (Honours) from RMIT University, Australia
