Under the tabled Criminal Procedure Code Bill, the police will also be given greater latitude to shoot to kill suspects whom they believe to be terrorists.

What will make them believe that I'm not a terrorist? Are we safe from being shot by lapses of judgement?:(

With the advent of militant islam, the cost of travelling and other security measures had gone up. To-date, all terrorists are islamic militants, arguably because of Bush's response to the 9-11 attack in rooting out Al-Queda.

Now with the mumbai attack, nations are more vigilant than before.

Our police are reasonably well-trained, unlikely to run in the opposite direction. So this law gives them greater latitude. As you say, hopefully accidents will not happen.

Hi Kakowi

The incident of the Brazilian who was mistaken for a terrorist, followed, shot and killed in London is as fresh in my mind as a just landed fish!

I remembered reading somewhere that London is the centre of operations for muslim militants for Europe.

Their immigration laws had been changed.

The example you cited is a sad commentary of life today. Sincerely hope that it will not happen here.

If and when lapses occur, you can bet on the "it's an honest mistake, let's move on" statement.

imagine the light fixture at the common corridor o/s my unit become loose & left hanging precariously for some time. i go to see the Inspector-General about disclipine, regular supervision & audits. but, before i could get close, i was gunned down. WHY? becos less than $3 senior officer/team leader can issue work order or not?

P.S. "nobody like oppressive people so someone got to do the job"
