Hong, you're missing the point. They are not trying to curb the traffic problem. They are finding more reasons to implement ERP on weekends and new ways to make money from Sinkies.
I REFER to Sunday's report, 'Off-peak car scheme revised'. The basic issue is whether the Land Transport Authority was right to focus on value creation for red-plate car owners, instead of directly cutting road use to reduce congestion.
It may temporarily appease them but it will not solve the fundamental problem.
Such a move could open a Pandora's Box of more congestion on the road, created by red-plate car owners.
I think we are pushing the envelope too far thinking that early cash rebates will draw them in.

AS AN Off-Peak Car (OPC) owner, I welcome the news that OPCs can be on the road for longer hours.
However, I question the need for a $100 administrative fee to convert the current OPC to the revised one.
Once an OPC, always an OPC - unless the owner converts an OPC to a regular plate. Is there a need to penalise OPC owners?
The $100 fee should applicable to regular car plate owners who convert their cars to OPCs.
Can the authorities reconsider the fee imposed on existing OPC owners who have supported the scheme from the start?
