SINGAPORE - A vigilant off-duty police officer from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division had detected a 21-year-old man for committing peeping tom acts at a shopping centre along Telok Blangah Road.

On Nov 20, 2013 at about 3.05pm, the off-duty officer was at the shopping centre when he detected the man behaving in an awkward manner. The man was seen squatting behind a victim and taking photographs using his mobile phone.

The victim is a 24-year-old woman who was unaware that she was being photographed by the man. She was watching the display monitor at a movie theatre to purchase tickets for a movie.

Upon detecting the act, the officer approached the man. Officers from the Clementi Police Division were subsequently alerted and immediately responded to the case. Checks were conducted on the man and photographs of the woman were found in his mobile phone.

Investigations against the man are ongoing.

If convicted, he may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or both.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Melvin Yong, commended the officer for his vigilance. He advised members of the public to be attentive to their surroundings and if confronted, to seek help from people nearby, and call the police immediately to report the matter.
