Of Catherine Lim, LHL's Oxymorons and his missed opportunities

Catherine Lim is like a hair drier. All she does is blow hot air.

If she thinks it's easy running the country she should put her hand up and contribute some leadership. Anyone can criticize from the sidelines. It's a national pastime. Sinkies are full of bullshit and they have this great desire to defecate whenever there's an audience.

Firstly, the customers and paymasters have the right to criticise the servants if the servants do not deliver up to expectation. You mean an employer has no right to criticise an employee for poor performance?

Secondly, whether a job is difficult is irrelevant because the PAP agrees to do the job at the remuneration. You cannot whine about the job that you have voluntarily agreed to undertake and expect your customers to lower their expectations. If the PAP feels that the job is beyond them, say so openly and resign.

Thirdly, you do not need to have done the exact same thing before you can criticise someone who is doing it. Music and movie critics do not need to be great musicians or great directors or actors or producers or script writers respectively. This is because people is criticising the end product and not the process of producing the end product.

The issue isn't one of "right".

Criticising is easy. Anyone can do it. However, those who are quick to criticise should put their money where their mouth is and do something constructive to contribute towards a solution. If they can't or they're unwilling to do so, they should just shut their stupid traps.

I beg to differ. An intellectual criticism is a constructive contribution. When a person steps up into a political position, he/she is a public figure and open for criticism. Anyone can criticise him/her. I find Leongsam's comments along the same path as typical PAP arguments - "Since you complain so much, then you come do it?"

I agree with the PAP's argument wholeheartedly. Talk is cheap. Actually doing something positive takes a lot more effort.

Your so called "intellectual" criticism is nothing more than criticism with fancy words. Strip away the wrapping and it still nothing more than cheap talk that requires little or no effort.

Ordinary criticism and intellectual criticism is cheap talk so what should the people do if the millionaired employee farked up?

All politicians do that. It's not unique to the PAP. Don't allow such minor issues to work you up.

If Singaporeans channeled the same amount of time and effort they spend criticising the govt into productive pursuits, they'd all be a lot more wealthy.

Concentrate on making your own life better and ignore the distractions that the govt provides. You'll be happier and richer for it.

Yeah, that's why I do not believe politicians. They should get out of our lives.

S'poreans are wealthy. They spend most of their time making money. Rest of the time, Sinkies eat. Thier maids do everything else, including raising their kids.

About this criticizing thing, the establishment had done enough to ensure cristicism, dissident views, and a free press are muffled in the past. The current media practices "self-censorship." There is too much pro-establishment voices in Sg that the masses actually believe everthing the media dishes out. It is time for more opposing voices to be heard - officially.

As long as the criticisms are not at a personal level, it is fine by me. Being in public office, doing state-related services, being open to criticism is one of the traits those in governance should take as all in a day's work.

You go to a gourmet restaurant, and the food and/or services sucks, ya keep mum?

Cheers!

It takes an Ah Quah to teach women how to dress well.

Chee Byes are good at scolding people and some men must need cheebyes to scold them and tell them they are wrongly dress.
