A spokesperson for the Sevilla-based football club, Real Betis, has reported that blood tests done two days ago confirm that 13 of its players have tested positive for the AH1N1 virus.
The club's medical staff now have the results of the analyses and have ordered the immediate implementation of the club's infectious disease protocol, which includes the cancellation of all this week's training sessions.
A full press conference was held this afternoon by Tomás Calero (pictured), chief medical officer for the club at the club's Ruiz de Lopera stadium and the names of the players infected by the AH1N1 virus were released. They are: Rivas, Nelson, Sunny, Nano, Damiá, Fernando Vega, Sergio García, Carlos García, Israel, Juande, Pavone, Caffa and Emaná.
The Betis manager, Antonio Tapia, had already modified the training structure for the week whilst awaiting the results of the blood tests.
Based on the reduced number of players available, the club has exercised its right to request the postponement of this weekend's match against Villarreal B from the Spanish Professional Football Association.
