SUVA - A MODERATE 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit off the Pacific island nation of Fiji on Saturday, seismologists said.
The quake which struck at 3.47am (1547 GMT Friday, 11.47pm Singapore time) was centred 439km west-north-west of the capital Suva at a relatively shallow depth of 22km, the US Geological Survey said.
The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre did not issue any warnings or alerts following the quake.
Fiji sits on the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where continental plates meet, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
