UDON THANI - A male nurse has been arrested and charged with having sold drugs to prison inmates for at least 13 years, reports said.
Police, on Sunday, seized Jiraphat Boonchusuwansuk, 32 at his living quarters in Udon Thani central prison and seized 400 methamphetamine tablets, or yaba.
The suspect admitted he had been selling the drugs to inmates for over 13 years, ever since he joined the corrections department as a nurse.
He said he usually sold the drugs to inmates during their routine check-ups, at 1,000-2,000 baht per tablet.
He said it was easy for him to get the drugs into the prison, because it was quite normal for a nurse to carry different kinds drugs.
“The guards were not suspicious, because they thought the drugs were medicinal, for the treatment of the inmates,” he said, according to police.
