Tampines is defended strongly by Shortie Mah and Team, their weak link being the new Malay chap, and the other 2 chinese guy, Sin and Ong.
The previous results PAP Vs SDA is at 68.51% vs 31.49%. In order to win another 20% 24000 votes will be a tough fight. In Tampines you have the Merchants' Associations, Resident Communities, Community Centres of different zones, Tampines Town Council, HDB Tampines, Police Neighbourhood Posts, as PAP's ground support for their campaign if there are any elections. All of them got their own agendas for PAP to win to protect their rice bowls.
I think Tampines East will be a stronghold for PAP, while the weaker areas are Tampines West and Tampines North area, which are on the outskirts of the town. I think the oppositions can win votes from residents there. There are more crimes registered (fire-cases, etc) in those areas and residents there are more open to changes, etc.
Tampines was touted as the best modern town to stay in at one point of time, thus if it will to fall to opposition, it will be a great blow to PAP. I remembered that Old Man came down personally to lift his PAP MPs morale during the GE in 2001 end, their MPs were then caught offguard by Opposition's contest there, they were expecting a walkover and ready to celebrate liao, but when the news of the contests came, and all of the MPs face turned smelly smelly liao...
The PAPs deployed their ground forces efficiently then as well, recruiting many PAP volunteers on the side for misc works in their campaign...
But all these ground forces they have will be useless, if only the Opposition are to move the people staying there with their words and promises of a more transparent government and one who takes better care of its citizens compared to FTs, etc, etc...
I really hope to see a contest here in Tampines.
Cheers!
