Stop the agenda of political hegemony, Vote for Proportionate Representation System
Tue, Apr 27, 2010
Dear Sir/Madam,
We support Workers Party MPs in parliament in condemning the PAP government of trying to use the increment of NCMP seats for the coming elections as a ploy to persuade voters of not voting for more opposition members into parliament as they have “graciously” allowed more NCMP to be appointed. We also agree with NCMP Sylvia Lim that the root cause of the problems we face now is PAP’s constant gerrymandering with the GRC system as well as the boundary redrawing.
The National Solidarity Party is neutral on the NCMP scheme as the NCMPs would have been legitimate members of parliament EMPOWERED by the people’s votes under a proportionate representation system. However we detest the PAP’s ploy to exploit it for their own agenda of entrenching their political hegemony.
NSP hereby reiterates that it advocates a proportionate representation system for Singapore. In the interest of long term political stability for Singapore, a carefully crafted proportionate representation political system would be the better system than the present NCMP scheme to serve Singaporeans.
NSP wish to remind voters that the only genuine way of forcing a change to the present system is to vote out some of PAP MPs from their GRC fortresses. Real change will only come with a genuine show of will by the people’s power.
