A taxi driver was trapped yesterday morning after heavy rain and strong winds caused two trees to fall and one of them fell onto the passing vehicle.
The incident happened at Lower Delta Road and caused it to be closed to traffic for about an hour.
The driver, a 54-year-old woman, suffered no visible injuries and was sent to the hospital for a check-up as a precaution, according to local reports. No passengers were in the taxi at that time.
According to The New Paper, an initial assessment by the National Parks Board (NPB) showed that strong winds and heavy rain caused the trees to topple.
An NPB spokesman said that incessant rain over the last few days had also saturated the soil in the area.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call about the accident at 8.53am.
SCDF officers arrived at the scene in 10 minutes and rescued the driver in five.
