Singapore Prepares for Christmas in the Tropics
Thursday, 13 November 2008

This year’s Singaporean extravaganza, Christmas in the Tropics promises to be the sweetest Christmas yet, with a host of exciting treats and deals on offer from 15 November 2008 to 2 January 2009.

Christmas in the Tropics 2008 begins with the popular Christmas Light-up along Orchard Road and Marina Bay with the theme of “A Sweet Christmas in Singapore” which is guaranteed to fill the whole family with festive cheer.

The nightly spectacle will see the city transform into a delightful and magical candy land dripping with gumdrops, licorice, candy canes and jelly beans, as dazzling lights, shimmering decorations and Christmas carols fill the air with festive joy.

For an unbeatable visual treat, visitors can hop aboard a special open-air bus for a 30-minute tour of the Christmas Light-Up along Orchard Road for free and be dazzled by the miles of dangling “candies”!

Visitors can further indulge in the Christmas Spirit with Christmas-themed shows performed nightly at various locations along Orchard Road, as well as the colourful “Spirit of Christmas” Float Parade from 19 to 24 December and party away at the Grand Concert happening on Christmas Day.

Christmas in the Tropics 2008 has a number of attractive deals and special treats which proves that Christmas ‘is the season to be jolly’.

During this festive season, kids get to indulge in a free holiday with free rides, free admissions in over 20 attractions and even free meals at more than 30 participating attractions and dining outlets around the city.

In most of the special deals, for every two paying adults, up to two kids can enjoy free treats. This promotion includes the world’s tallest giant observation wheel, the Singapore Flyer where visitors will get to enjoy 360-degree views of Singapore, and might even get a glimpse of Malaysia and Indonesia.

For a fantastic view of the Singapore harbour, Sentosa and passing ships, visitors should head to Jewel Box to enjoy the highly anticipated season of The Jewel Christmas Musical Light Show, a dramatic spectacular of music, live performance, dance and choreographed lighting, the world’s tallest artificial Christmas tree and the magical Snow Show.

Just across the harbour, visitors will be transported into a world of fairies and elves for an enchanted Christmas by the beach at Sentosa Island.

The Magical Fairy Combo package features five attractions and gives away free sets of Fairy or Elf Accessories to children. Other festive attraction highlights include the MINT Museum of Toys where a rare collection of vintage Christmas toys dating between the 1940s and 1970s will be displayed.

Parents can wow their children even further with a colourful extravaganza of fun at the award-winning Singapore Zoo, where they will be able to celebrate a fun yet educational Christmas.

Surrounded by rainforest and tranquil waters, children can look forward to splashes of exhilarating activities at the open concept Singapore Zoo’s newly launched Rainforest Kidzworld! , were kids can enjoy a playground themed animal carousel, pony rides and horse carriages rides, rainforest challenges and visiting the home of ponies and falabellas.

Visitors to the zoo can also take a 20-minute leisurely boat ride along the scenic Upper Seletar Reservoir, which many wildlife in Singapore call home. In this nature retreat, parents and children can learn more about water and wildlife conservations from the knowledgeable onboard guides.

Last but not the least, families may wrap up their joyous festive holiday in Singapore with an all-new interactive family experience at Build-A-Bear Workshop.

This teddy-bear themed experience retail store combines the universal appeal of plush animals with an interactive process that allows parents to create a huggable companion with their children.

A Master Bear Builder associate will guide the children through all the bear making fun from stuffing, stitching to creating a personalized birth certificate to their new best friends.

This will definitely be a memorable experience for the family and surely the perfect Christmas gift for the children to bring back home this Christmas!

Amid all this glitz, hope some thought is given to what really is the meaning of Christmas.

Cheers!
