Say you are intelligent and consider yourself to be a good, honest person who would like to contribute to society. Would you like to be made to look foolish in the eyes of the public? When the public questioned the wisdom of investing public money in American banks whose share price was headed south, Tharman S stood up to tell everybody that the government would not look into the strategies of companies like Temasek and GIC.
In May 2009, I wonder whether he remembered what he said in 2008 and the thoughts that went through his head when he was tasked with justifying Temasek's cut-loss action of over US$4 billion.

So it is not Tharman S's job to question the policies of Temasek and GIC, but poor thing, it is his job to explain why they lost billions of dollars. That's why I say it is not easy to be a Minister.

That's why I say it is not easy to be a Minister.

In Singapore it is no less easier being an MP. That's why the ministers and MPs are paid a respectable salary commensurating with their tough job - to please everyone - from shaking hands with the roadsweepers and butchers to helping mad people who later thanked them by throwing fires at them or crazy people making fun of them for wearing pink shirts!

If you think MPs and Minister jobs are going to be easy, dare you to try it some day - provided the people vote for you.
