Singapore's Harvey Dent

Extremely unfortunate incident of a Singapore MP go splashed with fuel and set fire on.

One would expect such an incident to garner OUTRAGE against the arsonist and SYMPATHY for the victim.
Well we have a `George Bush get whacked by a shoe' situation here, it seems. See the local forums:

Even the previous incident that the MP was punched up was brought up, here:

Go read and figure out the political climate here, now. Man .....
Check out a blogpost and an online poll here, and the initial sentiments in response to the question - Who Deserves more sympathy:

i would be worried if no one burn the mp. he should walk in with his eyes open. the goverment should interfer, the mp should report his complain to the related institude and wait for their respond.

The lack of publc sympathy just shows how much our "leaders" are loved. When a government rules by fear instead of love this is the society it builds.

Instead we are asking to know more of the background of the 70 yo man who attacked SHT. Many questions may remain unanswered as the press had so far gave a vague view of the ex taxi driver.
The first time SHT was punched by an ex-taxi driver and the law protecting MPs was made stricter. Now he is attacked again.....and by another ex-taxi driver.
We know SHT is adviser to the six-affiliate Taxi Operators' Association. Had he been given ill advices that upsets the people that they took matters into their own hands?

No Public Sympathy?
No Problem, We can arrange through our grassroots leaders to have bus loads of Uncle and Aunties to weep outside the hospital.

Not Enough? We can also arrange for PAPPY Kindergarten kids to go too, mask as field trip.

Given the nature of the incident and the response generated, it is clear that the masses are rubbing their hands in glee. Which is a very very bad sign.

Usually it is a resident with a short temper who meets the MP, who may attract some insults from the MPs.

Some people may die.... Thinner will be spilt.
