HDB: Newer lifts not worse than older ones

<!-- by line --><!-- end by line -->
<!-- end left side bar --><!-- story content : start -->
I REFER to last Wednesday's letter from Mr Chia Jun Jie ("New lifts not as good as the old ones").
We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the lift breakdowns at Block 2 Toh Yi Drive. The lift was upgraded and has been serving residents since March. Our records show that there were three breakdowns during the initial run-in period. These were largely due to technical glitches related to the door of the lift. We have since rectified the problems and have not received further feedback on lift breakdowns.
The writer also felt that the waiting time for the lift door to open or close seemed longer than that for the old lifts. Our checks show that the time taken for the lift door opening and closing for the new lift is the same as that for the old lifts. Nevertheless, in view of the feedback, we have adjusted the lift door opening and closing time from four to three seconds. On the travelling time of the lift, the speed of the upgraded and old lifts are the same, at 90m per minute.
We thank the writer for the feedback.

old trick for slow elevators. put a mirror in it. passengers will not complain when they are busy preening themselves. Notice hotels use this all the time.
