SHAH ALAM: A Nigerian student from a private higher leaning institution in Kuala Lumpur was detained at the KL International Airport in Sepang on Wednesday with 3.5kg of syabu.
Selangor Narcotics chief ACP Nordin Kadir said the second-year student was detained after arriving from Doha, Qatar at about 3.30pm while trying to retrieve his baggage.
"Police were initially unable to identify the hidden drugs but upon a thorough manual inspection two packets believed to be syabu were found," he told reporters here on Thursday.
The seized syabu that weighed 3.5kg was estimated to be worth RM875,000 while the student was remanded and investigations carried out under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Nordin said initial investigations also revealed that the student acted as a drug mule and paid US$2,500 (RM7,750) for the trip. - Bernama
