Election’s agenda in Singapore has been very shallow and hollow ever since upgrading of townships becomes a hot favorite.
HDB lift not stopping at every floor not a defect? Why are leaseholders paying for the upgrading? What about other upgrading, are they free? This stupidity will continue……
Politics affect our lives, so every legitimate voter has a set of responsibility.
If upgrading and handouts are the chief reason to elect a govt, then the voters are not electing a govt. They are only digging their graves especially the locals !
Next GE, perhaps Alternative parties may wish to take a different approach---go for the voters!
Voters must ask themselves whether they want to see living concrete space gets smaller and unaffordable , the stupid have- land –will- build campaign, crowded trains , traffic congestions, excessive population , extravagant spending on defense , no more empty land for posterity, artificial safe environment, got big land for golf but no land for more cheaper nursing homes, conscription, expensive Govt, etc ?
And most of all, do they wish to learn more about the country’s reserves and wealth?
Voters should think deep and further about things around them and not just discuss about bricks and tiles and the price of pigeon holes. .
Look at the living space; you dare to have 6 children in a 3 -room flat? Look at our children at primary schools, almost 70 to 80% are four -eye monkeys. Are we not concerned when they have no place to go except cyberspace and malls???
Attacking PAP’s policies and wrongdoings during the GE’s husting may also haul in some votes but risk becoming personal.
We see past GE with personal attacks resulting defamatory suit and who were winners?
Gomez saga was one good example, the whole agenda was on him, the whole media descended on him and who won the last GE?
Never let the similar saga repeats becos the whole elections debating on bad policies will be distracted, and the elections will become pink- panther show they oh so cherish.
The onus lies with the voters; they are the ones giving mandate to the present Govt. who creates the situation.
Alternative parties may have the last chance to save Singaporean island next GE. One or two GRCs will see some light of hope.
Voters have to be reminded again and again at the polls that politics and policies will affect them and their children; they are then responsible and accountable for the future of their posterity ultimately.
I hope alternative parties go for voters next GE, they are ones responsible for what we see around us today. Make them think hard before they cast their votes next GE, they have to be responsible for what they do at the polls.
I hope alternative parties take a different approach, don’t dwell on high salaries PAP ministers are getting becos it won’t work anymore. Go for the voters, make them think emotionally about the country’s future and environment and its residents and its reserves and well-being and friendship with neighbors for long term survival----these are real ground issues!!! Let the voters shoulder the responsibility when they go to the polls.
If upgrading can be a drive factor to win votes. Alternative parties can also say it to the voters that Singapore under the current rule may see massive prostitution and big- time gambling flourishing and a chaotic rojak society , and the ethics of works and education will be destroyed. Voters have to decide the future they want for their children.
And after all the concerted efforts, if Singapore becomes a totalitarian state after next GE, let us respect the decision. Like I say, voters are responsible for what they do except voting is secret, nobody knows who votes for whom and though this is a scary thing; we have to accept the result gentlemanly. .
There will be collateral damage but at least those among the collateral damage will live with no regrets if they have done the right thing at the polls. No worry, the future is for us to see who is right and who is doing wrong. Regrets will not change bad things that have been done.
Lastly, please also tell the voters that there would be no more opposition parties around if they do not want oppo parties next GE and majority should not complain if policies are not in their favor aftermath becos there would be no one to contradict. .
Make a change, alternative parties should also say something to let the voters think deep with their heart before they vote!!!
The next GE, make all voters participate in a small way, this is a very small country, look again.
40 years on, making Singapore potable -water sufficient will be a big struggle after the two water contracts are due.
Spring/mountain water is better to drink or sai chwee is safer after several years? Be a pacifist better or flashing high-tech war weapons better? Conversely, our neighbors do not need a war to annihilate Singaporean island. If ever there is a war, Singapore will never see light no more, and hell will be permanent!
Oh, remember, if you want to win PRC (NC) votes, speak mandarin—it is also like teochew, a dialect to count on, best with a comrade accent.
Malays’ votes are also crucial, win their hearts, the results will change Singapore. Local Malays are loving people, they do love the island, speak the right kampong language, and their votes may sway. Singapore is also their kampong, yes, football must kick and guitar must also play, it’s entirely up to them to decide what they want to see around them for many years to come, and how their children to be brought up.
Think about Hawaii’s history, visit Hawaii, it will surely give a jolt to the locals; unfortunately the lesson to learn is too expensive and too faraway for majority local voters.
But do these voters prefer true history or the little Nyonya??
Next GE could be the last stance for alternative parties, as a supporter, we wish alternative parties every best fighting for greater good for Singapore. .
A small country without a culture, without true history, without compassion, keep talking about money, will collapse tragically. We will see !
Well, it may be too late to save Singapore becos the FT policy has gathered a big force of new citizens who are pro-PAP.
But let us have hopes for the local Singaporean-Singapore!
